Philosophy Statement
My nutrition journey started when I realized that as a life-long aquatic athlete the one factor that had plagued my life, and the livelihood of the people around me, was food. Specifically, I chose to study Clinical Nutrition because I felt it offered a diverse curriculum that allowed me to integrate my interests in science, communication, and human behavior. Through my coursework, I have come to understand nutrition as part of a complex social, cultural, and economic web that shapes health outcomes.
Now, after three and a half years of digesting dense nutrition-related information ranging from disease-specific MNT to food service management, I have come to the realization of two main factors. First, nutrition is the cornerstone of disease prevention, healing and mental & physical health. Second, the validity of nutritional advice and information is reliant on the emphasis of evidence-based, patient-centered nutrition care. I believe Nutrition is an especially powerful tool when variance in cultural background, lifestyle and overall relationship with food is valued.
